West Greenlandic noun incorporation in a monohierarchical theory of grammar

چکیده
The resulting denominal verb (DV) has the full syntactic and morphological distribution of any verb in West Greenlandic. It also retains some of the properties of the incorporated nominal, which has led some researchers to analyze this construction as a kind of NI. However, as Sapir (1911), Mithun (1986) and others have argued, it has little in common with NI constructions in languages like Mohawk or Southern Tiwa. In this paper, I will explore an alternative HPSG analysis of these DVs as a

West Greenlandic noun incorporation in a monohierarchical theory of grammar
The resulting denominal verb (dv) has the full syntactic and morphological distribution of any verb in West Greenlandic. It also retains some of the properties of the incorporated nominal (in), which has led some researchers to analyze this construction as a kind of ni and to argue that it represents a structural mismatch between syntax and morphology. In this paper, I will present an alternati...

Syntactic noun incorporation (SNI) in Danish is a phenomenon that has reeexes in phonology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics. In contrast with morphological noun incorporation, which involves compounding of an N stem and a V stem to yield a larger, derived V stem (Mithun, 1984, 847), SNI does not involve any overt word order perturbation or overt morphology, but is rather expressed prosodically...

متن کاملNoun incorporation and the Mohawk lexicon
Mohawk, like many North American languages, seems to do in its morphology what more familiar languages do in their syntax. When faced with such a language, the linguist is forced to reconsider some basic notions. Do we ignore the apparent parallels between syntactic and morphological processes and continue to treat them diierently, or do we push syntax down below the word level? What is the div...

Pseudo Noun Incorporation in Niuean appears to be a problematic construction for lexicalist theory because it seems to exhibit both morphological and syntactic properties. After considering the basic data and generalizations, this paper examines two possible Lexical-Functional analyses. The first, the PRED ARG analysis, looks to map the incorporated noun phrase to revised view of a-structure. T...
